Chanakya was an adviser to the Mauryan Emperor Chandragupta, and was the chief architect of his rise to power. Kautilya and Vishnugupta, the names, with whom the ancient Indian political treatise, called the ‘Arthashastra’ is identified as its authors, were believed to be, in fact, pseudo-names of Chanakya only. Chanakya has been considered, as the pioneer in the field of economics and political science.
